This charming set of six sterling silver coffee spoons, part of our Deja Vu collection, is hallmarked Sheffield 1938 and crafted by Viners Ltd, one of Sheffield's most celebrated silversmithing firms, founded by Adolphe Viener and his sons. Each spoon bears the maker's "EV" mark for Edward Viner, registered in 1932, alongside the lion passant and Sheffield hallmarks confirming both sterling standard and city of origin.
The handles feature a bold geometric chevron motif set into the terminal, capturing the clean, angular spirit of Art Deco design popular through the interwar decades. This zigzag detailing sits in elegant contrast to the smooth, tapering lines of the stem, giving the spoons a distinctly modern character for their era while remaining wonderfully tactile and well balanced in the hand.
Presented in a fitted case with "Sterling Silver" on the cream silk lining, with the spoons nestled in dark 'velvet', the set has a lovely sense of provenance and completeness rarely found intact after nearly ninety years. A delightful find for collectors of Art Deco silverware, this set would once have accompanied a coffee service for guests, and remains equally at home on a modern table or displayed as a piece of design history from one of Sheffield's most prolific silversmithing houses.
